COVID-19 Update and New Programs

As the seasons continue to change we long to welcome you back to the sacred land of Blue Deer Center, but due to the COVID-19 crisis:

  • Our plans for 2020Vision facility planning have been placed on hold
  • We have cancelled our Spring and Summer Programs.
  • We hope to re-open for our Fall programs, but we will abide by NY State regulations for travel and quarantine (which currently restricts many participants).

After completing our review of staff, programs and NY State regulations our Board of Directors met this week and plans to PARTIALLY open the center for the late Summer and Fall. This is a bittersweet decision, but a necessary one. We must secure the safety and well being of our guests and staff.

What does this mean practically?

  • We will open the Main House and the Green House (the Guest House will remain closed) allowing us to host up to 6 couples (12 people) or 8 individuals
  • We will undergo the thorough and rigorous preparation for opening required by the State of NY for COVID-19.

What does this mean for Programs?

Blue Deer is committed to rekindling our relationship to the natural world so that we may learn how to live a good life, no matter what is going on around us.

As a not-for-profit organization we face enormous financial challenges in weathering the loss of income and in securing our ability to re-open fully in 2021. We are utilizing this pause to engage our mission in new and vital ways, including a new programming schedule for 2021.

Amanda Kerner as our Acting Executive Director is here to communicate with you via email at executivedirector [at] bluedeer [dot] org or cell phone 310.452.0658 to answer any questions you might have. Our center is physically closed, but we check our voice messages regularly.

Until we meet again around the fire at Blue Deer Center, we invite you to care for yourself, your community and the natural world.
