Fall Healing Camp

Five Days of Huichol Healing in Nature

with Eliot Cowan

Immerse yourself in a week of ceremony and spiritual healing. The combination of sacred land and Huichol Traditions creates a powerful medicine for spiritual and personal transformation.

We all long to feel connected -- to our spirit, to each other and to the natural world.

The combined medicine of a sacred place in nature and a traditional healer is a potent antidote to the soul grinding of our daily lives. As we begin to emerge from the pandemic, we must take the time to reflect how we want to live as people in this world.

Program (This program is offered to a maximum of 12 participants.)

Healing Camp is a time to fully unplug for five days in nature and receive healing. Offered only at Blue Deer, it is a residential program that benefits you from the extraordinary power of place and healing.

What are Traditional Huichol Healings?
Eliot Cowan as a Tsurirrikame brings the ancient medicine of the Huichol People Homelands and makes it available for you at the sacred land of Blue Deer Center.

Your healing sessions will take place around a consecrated fire. Eliot will have fasted, sung and prayed to the Gods that his medicine might benefit you. When you join him, the two of you will have conversations about your dreams, as well as your health, relationships and life conditions. Eliot might offer you counsel. He might reach into his bag and bring out waters, stones, and feathered wands charged with divine blessings.

Experiences during this retreat:

  • The round-the-clock ceremonial setting supported by a sacred fire
  • Deep inner work with daily Huichol Traditional Treatments
  • Two teaching fires
  • Laughter and dancing
  • Daily programs by staff support and enhance the healing process

Treat yourself to this time to help you move forward from the isolation, by remembering and restoring your relationship with nature.

Blue Deer Center

Nestled in the Catskill Mountains on ninety three acres of land and forest, the Blue Deer Center is embraced by “Saskawhihine,” the river of peace. This land, known for millennia, as a place where conflict is resolved and illness gives way to health. Blessed things happen here that cannot happen even a short distance away, for this sacred place offers unique medicine that supports your healing and remembering your relationship to all of nature.

“I visited the Blue Deer Center for the first time. The world I was used to until then was fast, very fast. My life was focused on my kids, my job, and social media. Knowing that I had to spend five days in nature felt for a moment very challenging, but that sensation soon passed. The Blue Deer Center felt like time was standing still for a moment and I had a chance to reflect about my life. The only sound I heard was the crackling of fire, the river, and the people who were there. I started to feel a strong sense of happiness and joy. It seemed incredible that I had not noticed before that my happiness was so simple to achieve and lying right in front of me. By slowing down and taking in every breath of nature it made me realize how important this message was for me and I wanted to scream it out to the rest of the world. I respect and enjoy nature so much more and my new way of life has reflected on my family and my children, too.” – Nathalie

Mr. Cowan is best known for making accessible two treasures: the indigenous Huichol shamanistic tradition of Mexico and an approach to deep healing with the spirits of plants.
